We have arrived! We are fully surrounded by more boxes and suitcases than furniture except some ‘retro’ pieces left by the old owners so we wouldn’t have to sit on the floor until we find furniture. In the span of five days I’ve placed three “bricolage” (DIY/home improvement) orders, visited the bricolage shop, recaulked the sink, and have begun my first rookie-level project: wallpaper removal. The bedrooms, hall, and WC are a floral explosion; even the bedroom and bathroom doors feature a papered panel. It took me just over three hours to remove the paper on the one wall section you see below, so a few days of work are ahead. I’ll also need to figure out what the heck is behind it: in some places it looks like metal, in others, wood or sheetrock but feels harder than sheetrock. Is there a DIY hotline?
